Exploring Carlyle Johnson JEB Electric Jaw Clutches

Thanks to our recent acquisition of Carlyle Johnson Machine Company, we’ve added many brake and clutch products to our power transmission offering. One of these products is the proven Carlyle Johnson JEB electric jaw clutch.

The JEB clutch features high torque in a compact form factor and excels in exact positioning, holding and indexing tasks. Units can maintain positive registration between the input and output shaft and are available with pins for single-position engagement. Standard versions offer 24 or 100 volt DC coils, and other available voltages range from 6 to 240 volts.

Electric jaw clutches are bi-directional, allowing operation that is independent from rotation. A positive tooth drive, which provides secure engagement with minimum backlash, features jaw teeth that are composed of a hardened, high-carbon alloy steel. To quickly engage or release the clutch, units feature “Power Pack” control. Additional features include:

  • Torque ranges from 60 to 600 pound-feet.
  • Fully induced magnetic flux engagement.
  • Drag-free neutral capability, preventing torque transmission while the clutch is disengaged.

Tailored to Each Application

If a standard model can’t meet your application requirements, our experienced engineers are ready to customize any jaw clutch. Some of the options you can choose from include:

  • A full range of tooth configurations.
  • Single or multiple position registration.
  • Spring set or electrically released options.
  • A fully custom design.
